The Beatles - Unsurpassed Broadcasts 2nd Edition

To clarify matters and avoid confusion, I've decided to call this lot the 'Second Edition'.
In essence, they incorporate the following:

- Some music upgrades: the live Saturday Club and material taken straight from the Top Of The Pops discs rather than from radio specials.

- A lot of extra BBC chat. So much so that I've had to include another volume (V12). Some appearances are lengthened, while some are completely new. As a result the track listing for V8 and 11 has changed.

- Some creative editing to restore beginnings to songs where the opening moments were clipped off.

- Some fragments of continuity I missed first time around, as pointed out by the 910 and others.

- Some declicking from Superflash.

- Lossless source for some material that turned out to have been from mp3s.

- Various minor tweaks.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME ONE

- Some minor eq adjustments to tracks 20/24/25.

- Tracks 33 and 35-40 upgraded from an unbooted tape courtesy of jasta.

- The artwork is unchanged, bar the front cover.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME TWO

- some dropout fixes in trk 1
- trk 3 now longer
- trk 25 intro repaired
- trk 27-28 redone
- trk 31 intro repaired
- trk 34 whistle removed
- trk 42 intro repaired

The second Side By Side theme is still missing a chunk. I think the tape probably snapped here and was repaired.
On 'The Lost Beebs' and PC's set there is a burst of static in this spot, where you can faintly hear an announcer's voice.
After analysing this carefully however, I'm 99% certain that this is actually a bit of fakery. So I didn't use it.
ADD: It is offered as an alternate afterall.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME THREE

- trk 27-28 replaced with lossless source
- trk 46 intro repaired
- trk 50 intro repaired

Not a lot different, as you can see. It's mainly the later volumes that have changed.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME FOUR

- minor tweaks to trks 1-3
- track 5 an unbooted upgrade courtesy of an anonymous donor.  MANY THANKS!
- tracks 6-13 declicked by me
- trk 40 tweaked to make the end edit less obvious

The tape of There's A Place is actually from episode 12, but since the same recording was used in both shows
I've used it here too. This is a really top notch off air recording... I didn't have to do anything bar splice
on some missing beats at the start and boost the bass a bit. The top octave is intact, there's less distortion
and much better dynamics than any other version I've heard before. Hopefully we might one day be treated to
more material from this source.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME FIVE

- missing guitar notes restored to trk 3 at 37 seconds
- tweaks to trk 26
- trks 46, 48, 50 upgraded from new unbooted tape
- trk 53 eq tweaked

Well the big attraction here of course is the upgrades of trks 46 and 48 (I'll Get You and Money).
Previously only available in utterly dreadful quality, they now shimmer with luscious master quality loveliness.
A big thanks to The Mysterious Benefactor for these.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME SIX

- trks 43-50 replaced with lossless audio.

That's the only difference from the original issue. If you've been following this thread (not any easy task,
I admit) you'll know that I innadvertantly used mp3-sourced material for those tracks when I took them from
the Westwood One 'The Beatles BBC Tapes: The Original Masters' that circulates on cdr. However a kind Bzone
member bought a set of original Westwood discs off ebay and sent me copies. So these tracks are now as good
as they'll ever sound.

I did my own declicking here because I was interested to see what was possible. No slight on Superflash's
efforts intended.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME SEVEN

- trk 12 replaced with lossless source

- some date mixups on the back cover fixed

As you can see, not much at all has changed on this one.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME EIGHT

- trks 1-3 moved to start of cd
- added trks 17 + 19 MANY THANKS to DinsdaleP!
- trks 23-28 replaced with lossless audio
- trk 30 declicked by me
- trk 31 replaced with lossless audio
- trk 33 declicked by me
- trk 35 replaced with lossless audio
- trk 42 massaged by Superflash
- trks 43,44, 47,48 replaced with lossless audio
- trk 49 massaged by Superflash and closing announcement added

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME NINE

- trks 18, 20, 21, 22 upgraded with lossless copies from original Top Of The Pops transcription discs.
Fades are slightly longer and clarity improved.
- trk 23, 24 replaced with lossless audio

The new stuff sounds nice.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME TEN

- trks 4, 12, 14, 15, 17, 19, 21, 23, 31, 34 upgraded with lossless copies from original Top Of The Pops transcription discs. Fades are slightly longer and clarity improved. Trk 21 is the longest version ever.

- trks 35-37 are from the original Top Of The Pops show (lossless).

- trk 38 is extended.

The back cover has changed slightly.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME ELEVEN

Several interview items have been dropped and placed instead on V12. In their place is some new material:

- trk 3 features another 11 minutes worth of interviews by Brian Matthew. Not great quality but filtered for maximum clarity.
- trk 4 is now twice as long and complete
- trk 10 is new. Although previously booted (on PC's set), it has been speed corrected and filtered for improved clarity.

Also included as an mp3 is an interview with Tom Lodge for Radio Caroline on 25th March 1966, which by virtue of its awfullness demonstrates just how
skilled the BBC announcers were in comparison. Painful listening!

An incomplete version of track 17 (memhis tennessee) can be found at the end of the disc, titled "fragment"

If you want to include the "fragment" to your cd if your burning them with the cue files. Use the "over-burn" cue if you want it
added to the disc otherwise use the other cue file and it will not include it on your cd.

CHANGES TO THIS EDITION:

VOLUME TWELVE

- trk 1 opening and closing continuity changed to reflect the domestic broadcast rather than the TS version.
- trk 2 added.
- trks 4-12 added. These have been speed corrected where necessary.
- trk 13 has Miranda Ward's questions added.
- trk 14, 15 new.
- trk 16 extended and peed corrected where necessary.
- trk 17 slightly longer.
- trk 18 new (from 'The Golden Beatles').

There is also a 'bonus' volume of UB, called 'Top Of The Pops', and an Artwork And Documentation disc that
contains a 36 page booklet, restoration articles, list of sources and more.
